A Bachelor & His Grill. Behind the scenes, from 9-5, for the last decade, I’ve meticulously juggled a hectic professional schedule as an executive in the commercial banking industry, a countless number of personal & community commitments, all while tirelessly pursuing the passions that truly light the flames of my soul. Beyond the suit & tie, I’m single (hence “the Bachelor” moniker), living in a relatively sizable, on-trend Midwestern US city. I’m madly in love with creating amazing food, tossing back a fantastic chilled beverage (or 2), laughing loudly, & traveling the Globe in search of epic adventure! OK. Stopping. Here. Before we progress any further… If you really want the nitty-gritty, read onward. But, no promises if you are irreversibly emotionally scared for life once this narrative concludes. Option B: Click back to the main page, commence recipe surfing, drooling over your keyboard, partaking in whatever else you do while looking through copious amounts of food porn, & last, but not least, sharing this blog (with rave reviews) amongst your personal social network. Cheers!
So, what of this whole blogging, taking pictures of food, sharing recipes thing? Well, the formula goes something like this… 2 parts deeply-rooted passion for fare & outdoor cooking + 2 parts need to eat (something besides Ramen Noodles) + 1 part entrepreneurial spirit + 1 part collegiate art major + 1 part allocating personal time to positive, productive behavior + 1 part insatiable sense of wanderlust = my heart strings gradually navigating life astray from a one-track climb up the corporate ladder. For years now I have drank like water all I can absorb in a never-ending informal education of the culinary arts. In this journey, I’ve gone from young college grad, burning boiled water & losing myself in a simple PB&J recipe, to national grilling guru, international brand ambassador, national television cooking personality, published author, & (unbeknownst to the organization) the future marquee pitching prospect of Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers (we can all dream, right?). Through this blog, I hope to make you smile once in a while, never taking the content too seriously. I will share some of my very favorite recipes, how to simply create these dishes, how to avoid the pitfalls I stumble upon daily, & along the way I’ll offer a few tales of my journey in bachelorhood & culinary debauchery (the good, bad & ugly (we’ve all been there)). Now, before wrapping a bow-tie on this post, allow me to venture ever-so slightly off the beaten path to preemptively answer the question I am emailed every day – “Well, David, what happens if you get married… What will come of this ‘BACHELOR’ and his grill?!” My response, “Lets keep the horse in front of the cart – OK?!” Maybe we can focus on me having 1 great date, let alone being knocked on my heels & committing my heart / soul for a lifetime to another individual, through sickness/health, for better or worse, blah, blah, blah.: ) I know that sounds a touch cynical, but to be quite honest, I do enjoy my bachelorhood. And, when I say “enjoy,” I really mean, “I LOVE THE $HIT” out of being singular. Without getting too introspective, this love of singularity is partially a condition of failure, but also a uniquely phenomenal consequence of truly getting to know myself – something I am confident is entirely critical before you are truly capable of offering yourself in love to another human being. But, I am gradually arriving to a point where the prospect of sharing this life with someone special (critical descriptor being, “special,” not “someone.”) is an avenue that appeals greatly & I am whole-heartedly willing to pursue, much sooner than later. Now… where to find my lucky lady?: )
