This past week I was challenged to join along in a little something called, “Throwback Thursday??!” As it was explained to me, the parameters of this social network activity are relatively limited, but the grand idea is centric to sharing a snippet of yourself, at some point in time long-past (whether that be proverbially or literally speaking), to those who may not know you for the individual you were in “that lifetime.”
Never one to turn down an invite to party… Challenge accepted.
So. A long time ago. In a galaxy far, far away, I was a professional baseball player. I played the game from the time I could pick up a ball & for years traveled far & wide, from one sandlot, little league field, baseball diamond & stadium to the next, carrying my career through Minor League Baseball.
The photo below was taken after my first professional win with the Frontier League’s flagship team, The Kalamazoo Kings. Among the best times of my life – The thrill of victory, agony of defeat, blood, sweat & tears left on field alongside the best of friends, in front of thousands cheering nightly!! The smell of a well-oiled leather glove, pine tar on a wooden bat, fresh cut Kentucky bluegrass & concession stand cuisine. A game for the young of heart – My passion for baseball still runs fluidly through the veins… Day dreaming most afternoons in my office chair that I’ll make an appearance on the World Series roster for my beloved Detroit Tigers!
In the attached photo, you’ll note Your’s Truly flanked by the BEST hometown fans a ballplayer could ask for… Kalamazoo’s Super Fans – The loudest, most rambunctious, wild & crazy dudes I knew – Opposing teams dreading their visit to the Lions Den, particularly when these verbal bruisers lined the stands!:)
OK. Now… Snapping back to the present, in preparation for “Reality Check Friday.”
